MSF denounces attacks against medical facilities and civilians in Jenin

June 19 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The NGO Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has denounced attacks against medical facilities and civilians during serious clashes on Monday between Israeli military forces and Palestinian militants in the West Bank city of Jenin.

“Medical infrastructure and civilian property are not targets, and shooting at them is unacceptable and a violation of International Humanitarian Law. MSF condemns the indiscriminate use of violence in Jenin,” MSF said in a statement.

In particular, the group refers to the attacks against the Ibn Sina Hospital in Jenin and as a source it points to the Palestinian government media.

In addition, MSF has highlighted that it has provided medical assistance to the staff of the emergency room of the Jalil Suleiman hospital in the face of the Israeli “air and ground military attack”. MSF highlights that there are five confirmed deaths, including a 15-year-old girl who was shot in the head.

“The number of victims increased throughout the day, as it was an incident with mass casualties. Our team remained there to provide support to the hospital’s medical and paramedical staff,” said the head of MSF projects in Jenin, Jovana Arsenijevic. Of the more than 90 injured, 64 were treated at the Khalil Suleiman hospital. Of them, 10 are still in critical condition, MSF highlights.

“This unprecedented escalation is shocking and outrageous. Although Jenin has been witnessing violence and riots for weeks, the level of violence today is alarming,” added Arsenijevic, who recalls that this is the highest number of injuries in Jenin in a single day in years
