MSF condemns the murder of a health worker during an NGO transport in North Darfur (Sudan)

Jan. 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has denounced the murder this past Friday in the Sudanese state of North Darfur of a health worker who was traveling in a clearly identified humanitarian organization vehicle.

The event occurred in the state capital, El Fasher, for months one of the great epicenters of the war in Sudan between the Army and the paramilitaries of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). 15 kilometers from the city is the Zamzam refugee camp, where hundreds of thousands of people are going through a declared state of famine.

According to MSF, their ambulance was attacked by an armed man when they were transferring a pregnant patient from the Zamzam field medical center to the Saudi hospital in El Fasher, the only one with surgical capacity still standing in the area despite the incessant attacks. attacks.

MSF emphasizes that the ambulance “was clearly identified with the MSF logo and flag” when it was shot, fatally wounding a caregiver, who died when the team arrived at the Saudi hospital.

The NGO recalls that this is the second shooting against one of its ambulances in less than a month in El Fasher, and its head of emergency operations, Michel Olivier Lacharité, has declared himself “horrified” by this new assault.

On December 27, another MSF ambulance was hit by bullets in El Fasher during a similar transfer of patients from Zamzam to the Saudi hospital, without anyone being injured.
