The biggest challenge for the tourism sector in Colombia since the pandemic is to recover the green numbers in movement of international travelers. Currently, after approximately a year that the restrictions were ‘removed’, Anato reported that in the first half of 2022, this item was close to obtaining pre-pandemic levels, with a 99% recovery.

Moreover, according to the Association, in June showed a growth of 9%with a total of 1,313,591 travelers, when compared to the same month of 2019.
“This satisfies us greatly. In addition to being positive figures for Colombia, the country stands out when compared to the world, because in June 2022, international air traffic only reached a 65% recovery, compared to the same month in 2019, but Colombia showed a growth of one digit”, said Paula Cortés Calle, executive president of ANATO.
The main routes that presented the highest growth in passenger traffic on international flights between January and June 2022, were: Medellín-Punta Cana (407%); Cali-Cancun (168%); Bogota-Toronto (67%); Cali-Santiago de Chile (64%); Medellin-Orlando (19%); Medellin-Cancun (8%); Pereira-Miami (5%); and Cartagena-Panama (3%).

“This shows that the efforts of an entire industry have helped a recovery, which, although it has not been fully consolidated, shows progress, indicates resilience and highlights the sector as a fundamental part of the quality of life of Colombians.”, affirmed the union leader.
