27 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Russian Foreign Ministry has threatened on Thursday to adopt a “balanced and measured” response in retaliation if the G7 countries — the United States, Germany, Canada, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan and the EU — ban all exports to Russia.

“If new sanctions are introduced, we will react, as always, in a thoughtful, careful manner, guided by the tasks of protecting our interests and citizens, and maintaining national economic stability and the interests of national companies,” said diplomatic spokesperson Maria Zakharova.

Zajarova has warned that this type of sanctions against Russia would undermine “generally accepted principles of international trade”, at the same time that she has warned that the consequences would mainly affect the countries of the European Union, reports the Russian news agency TASS.

Along these lines, the Russian diplomatic spokesperson has announced that Moscow intends to further develop cooperation with those countries that are trusted by the Kremlin and that “adhere to a constructive line in relations with the Russian Federation.”

Zajarova has thus responded to the information advanced by the ‘Financial Times’ which suggests that the United States has proposed to the G7 to approve sanctions on all exports to Russia. The representatives of the European Union and Japan would have opposed the initiative, according to information from the aforementioned media.

The G7 will hold a new summit of leaders in the Japanese city of Hiroshima between May 19 and 21, with the climate and food crisis, economic growth and the energy transition among its main issues to be discussed. The G7 has also shown its support for the extension of the Ukrainian grain agreement and has called for an end to hostilities in Eastern Europe.
