The Moroccan authorities have claimed to have rescued more than 180 migrants, including several children, in various boats in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean in operations carried out between Monday and Wednesday.
Military sources quoted by the Moroccan state news agency, MAP, have indicated that the Coast Guard has rescued a total of 182 people in various types of boats, including kayaks and jet skis, as well as people who tried to swim across. .
Thus, they have stated that all of them received health care on Navy ships and were later transferred to the port, where they were handed over to Gendarmerie agents to clarify their legal status.
Morocco is one of the main transit points for migrants from sub-Saharan Africa to Europe. In recent months, Rabat has reinforced surveillance around the border with Spain, erecting fences with concertinas and digging ditches on the beach next to the border crossing and through which more than 12,000 people entered Ceuta on two days in May.
