Morocco appeals to the “responsibility” of the EU to preserve the agreements against “blackmail”

March 21. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government of Morocco has urged the EU countries and all their “apparatus” to “assume responsibility” and maintain the agreements with Morocco, in the face of possible “blackmail” and “political maneuvers”, in reference to the procedures opened before European Justice.

The Government spokesperson, Mustafa Baitas, has alleged in statements to the press that Morocco is not “part” of the disputes that are now in the hands of the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU) despite the fact that “some Moroccan professional associations” are. have been presented as “support” to the European party, which would be the defendant, reports the newspaper 'Hespress'.

The Attorney General of the EU has proposed this Thursday to the CJEU that the Council decision celebrating the association agreement for sustainable fishing with Morocco be annulled, because she considers that it violates the principle of self-determination of the territory of Western Sahara by not treat it as “separate and distinct” from Morocco.

However, the same Advocate General indicates, on the other hand, that the General Court made an error by annulling the decision approving, on behalf of the EU, a preferential tariff agreement with Morocco relating to the territory of Western Sahara, Therefore, he proposes overturning said sentence. In this second case, the Attorney General concludes that the preferential tariff agreement does treat the territory of Western Sahara as separate and distinct.

The spokesman for the Moroccan Executive has stressed that in any case these are procedures still in progress and that what was known this Thursday does not represent any final decision.
