ROME, July 19 (DPA/EP) –
Firefighters in the Italian region of Tuscany (east) have evacuated more than a hundred people from their homes to a safe place, thus fleeing a forest fire registered in the city of Lucca, about 60 kilometers from Florence.
Rescue teams have moved the evacuees to the small town of Fibbialla, as reported by the Fire Department late on Tuesday.
For his part, the regional president, Eugenio Giani, has encrypted the territory affected by the fire at about 400 hectares. Five helicopters and four firefighting planes are now working to combat the advancing flames.
There have also been brief interruptions on the fast train line between Florence and Rome due to a fire near the tracks as it passes through Allerona.
On the other hand, in northeastern Italy, a large forest fire has required the intervention of firefighters and has forced the evacuation of people from a highway toll booth due to the proximity of the flames.
