More than a hundred homes affected by seismic activity in El Salvador

At least 130 homes have been damaged and 19 people homeless due to the seismic activity registered between Sunday and Monday in El Salvador attributed to geological faults, civil protection authorities reported.

The damage has been concentrated in the Ahuachapán department, the epicenter of the activity, located in the west of the country. The victims remain in shelters due to the destruction of their houses.

According to official information, 219 tremors have been registered. The largest magnitude has been one of 5.1 degrees registered at 05:07 pm on Sunday, with a depth of nine kilometers.

“We are working on the evaluation of homes in order to meet the needs of the population,” said the director of Civil Protection, Luis Amaya, at a press conference.

Crews of public works workers worked on Monday to remove debris, while authorities set up eight shelters in the area, in case they have to attend to more emergencies.
