The NGO Alarm Phone warns of a boat with 400 migrants in danger of shipwreck
9 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
More than 700 migrants have reached the Italian coast of Lampedusa in less than 24 hours, taking advantage of the improvement in the state of the sea, while the NGO Alarm Phone has warned that a boat with 400 people on board is in danger of sinking in the Ionian Sea of the central Mediterranean, between Italy, Malta and Greece.
The migrants who have arrived in Lampedusa are mostly sub-Saharans who have begun a desperate flight from Tunisia, after its president, Kais Saied, encouraged their forced expulsion from the country and encouraged the population to exercise violence against these communities .
The president tried to qualify these statements later, but the attacks on sub-Saharan Africans continue to be the reason for complaints by Tunisian humanitarian organizations.
According to ‘La Repubblica’, the new arrivals join another 700 migrants who arrived in previous days who are currently sleeping in the open and enduring the still cold night temperatures as best they can.
On the other hand, the NGO Alarm Phone has spent all Sunday morning asking for help on social networks to help the boat adrift in the Ionian.
Alarm Phone understands that the boat is currently in the rescue zone of Malta, without fuel, and with an open road that is forcing its occupants to drain the boat with a bucket.
“These 400 people cannot save themselves, the authorities must urgently send a rescue. Any delay could be fatal,” the NGO warns.
