More than 190,000 people have been displaced in the Gazan towns of Khan Yunis and Deir al-Balah in just four and a half days due to the actions of the Israeli Armed Forces, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported on Friday.

“Israeli army evacuation orders and increased hostilities in Gaza are causing mass displacement and disrupting aid operations,” the agency said on its website, adding that aid shipments entering Gaza have dropped by 56 percent since April.

More than 8,000 people in the Gaza Strip have been affected because ten public schools hosting displaced people have stopped operating, according to the same organization, which says it is working to restore care at Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said Thursday that the levels of death and destruction in the Gaza Strip caused by the Israeli army’s attacks are “the highest” he can recall from a military campaign anywhere in the world since he took office and that it has also been carried out in a “chaotic” manner throughout the enclave, causing civilians to have to move again and again from the north to the south, and vice versa.

The Israeli army on July 10 dropped leaflets in Gaza City urging “all” residents to leave the town and head towards the centre of the enclave, amid reports of the forced displacement of Palestinians on Israeli orders. “Gaza City will be a dangerous combat zone,” it warned.

Israel launched an offensive against the Strip following the October 7 attacks, which left some 1,200 people dead and nearly 240 kidnapped. Hamas-controlled Gaza authorities have reported more than 39,200 dead, in addition to more than 560 Palestinians killed in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in operations by Israeli forces or in attacks by settlers.
