More than 130 detained at UCLA; Biden condemns "vandalism" due to pro-Palestinian protests

At least 132 students were arrested this Thursday, May 2, after the Police broke into a pro-Palestinian camp, set up at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) to protest against the Israeli offensive in Gaza. In the last hours, the president of the United States, Joe Biden, assured that he defends the right to peacefully demonstrate, but that he condemns “vandalism.” However, criticism is growing over police interventions to disperse demonstrations of this type in dozens of universities throughout the country, actions considered by activists as a violation of freedom of expression. The students demand that educational centers break ties with any project that benefits the Israeli Government or companies that finance the ongoing conflict.
