The United Nations peace mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), MONUSCO, has participated in an operation that has resulted in the rescue of five civilians, including a woman and two children, who had previously been kidnapped by a armed group in Djugu, in the province of Ituri.

Following this, MONUSCO has provided temporary shelter and medical assistance before sending civilians to their homes, according to the spokesman for the UN Secretary General, Stéphane Dujarric, in a press conference.

In the same region, members of the Mission have been deployed in a mining area northeast of Bunia to protect its inhabitants, who had been attacked by the armed group Cooperative for the Development of Congo (CODECO), leaving at least four civilians. dead.

In addition, MONUSCO has reported on the deterioration of the situation in the province of North Kivu due to the “strong clashes” between the Congolese Army and the rebel group March 23 Movement (M23) in the surroundings of the town of Sake, where the mission has deployed part of its troops.
