Moldova records massive power outages after Russian attacks on neighboring Ukraine

November 15 () –

The Moldovan authorities have confirmed this Tuesday that, as a consequence of the new wave of Russian attacks on Ukraine, the country has also registered massive power outages in a large part of the territory.

As reported by the Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister, Andrei Spinu, also in charge of Infrastructure and Development functions, the attacks by the Russian Armed Forces on Ukrainian energy facilities have also affected Moldova.

“As a result of Russia’s bombardment of the Ukrainian energy system in the last hour, one of the power lines that provide the transport of electricity for our country was automatically disconnected,” Spinu reported on his Telegram channel.

The Moldovan representative has detailed that the electricity transmission lines “have not been damaged”, but they have been automatically disconnected “as a security measure”. The state energy company Moldelectrica is already immersed in the work of restoring supply.

Moldova, Ukraine’s neighbor, has been greatly affected by the ongoing war in Eastern Europe. Since the outbreak of the conflict, the country has been in a state of emergency with the main objective of guaranteeing national security.

In recent weeks, the Moldovan authorities have acknowledged that the country’s energy supply could be greatly affected by the war in Ukraine.
