Calls recognition of Israel “fair” and “farsighted”

King Mohamed VI of Morocco has described Israel’s decision to recognize Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara as “fair” and “clairvoyant” and has claimed that it is an “irrefutable historical right over its Saharawi provinces”.
In a message of gratitude sent to the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, the monarch has expressed that the measure has been “well received by the Moroccan people” and has stressed that the issue of Western Sahara has become the “national cause of the Kingdom and the priority of its foreign policy”.
For this reason, he has highlighted the existence of an “effective jurisdiction of the Moroccan State and legal ties of loyalty (…) between the kings of Morocco and the Moroccan populations of these beloved lands”, something that he has considered “proven and indisputable”. .
Israel’s decision “is also farsighted because it is part of the irreversible international dynamic (…) of favoring a definitive political solution to this anachronistic regional dispute following the Moroccan initiative for autonomy in the Sahara region and within the framework of sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the Kingdom”, picks up the text.
Likewise, he has emphasized that relations with Israel have been strengthening since December 2020: “Now they are living in an unprecedented moment, either in terms of visits, development and cooperation,” he said before expressing his confidence that the decision adopted by Netanyahu “could further strengthen the ties between Morocco and Israel”.
“As I already indicated to you during our telephone conversation in December 2020, you are welcome in Morocco,” stressed Mohamed VI, who has invited Netanyahu to visit the country. The monarch hopes that this meeting will allow “creating new possibilities for bilateral relations between Morocco and Israel.”
