Mitsotakis promises not to agree with any political force to the right of New Democracy

The Greek prime minister and leader of the New Democracy party, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, has assured that he will not agree with any political formation located to the right of his formation after the elections on June 25 and has advocated a solo government.

“I am not going to collaborate with any political force that is to the right of New Democracy,” Mitsotakis said in an interview with the newspaper ‘Proto Thema’.

On the other hand, he has stressed that the historic Panhellenic Socialist Party (PASOK) does not want to support him as prime minister and also considers that “there is no margin” to agree with the main opposition party, the Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA).

Thus, he has opted to have a sufficient majority to govern alone and form a government “of great changes.” “The more legitimacy the next government has, the stronger the impetus will be to implement these changes. Only a strong and stable government can put them in place,” she has argued.

For his part, the leader of SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, has defended from Chalkida that it is possible to reverse the results of the May 21 elections. “We are here to listen to the citizens, but also to present our proposals. We have a hard road ahead of us, but you have known for years that our main characteristic is that we do not give up”, he highlighted.

“We will fight decisively even in the most difficult moments. We do not back down because we believe that society faces a great risk,” he added.

Tsipras has called on his supporters to appeal to pensioners: “tell them that their pensions have much less purchasing power than in 2019”, to small and medium-sized businessmen: “it is a lie, propaganda, that SYRIZA is going to raise social contributions”. “SYRIZA will help you pay off your debts”, he has assured.

For the second appointment with the polls, Greece will recover an electoral system with a premium on seats for the party with the most votes, which in theory will raise the party of Mitsotakis to the threshold of an absolute majority.
