Portable devices have been an impressive technological advance as they have followed the line of providing the most power in the smallest hardware. However, like any object that is in our hands, the risk of falling is high. Portable consoles know about it and in the middle of the Switch and Steam Deck era this can be a real nightmare, just like the one experienced by a user of the Valve system.

A Steam Deck lived after a soak in a soapy bathtub

For some reason, perhaps influenced by movies and TV series, doing things in the bathtub is an engaging experience. Watch TV, use a phone, listen to music, or play video games. Obviously this is not a good idea and a reddit user (via PCGamesN) checked it the hard way because while he was playing with his Steam Deck, a bad move caused it to fall into the water with soap and foam. The immediate result was that the device was turned off and obviously the worst was thought.

With everything to gain and nothing to lose, this user recalled that even though it is a fairly aggressive material with parts and circuits, isopropyl alcohol can prevent soap and water from causing short circuits and slow down the progress of damage. Hence, he decided to open the Steam Deck, disassemble it and clean each of its parts.

Cleaning up every part, he put everything back together, put the Steam Deck back together, and then described the moment of truth as “eternity.” He pressed the power button and unexpectedly, the device showed the home screen, confirming that everything went well and the fall in the bathtub was an accident without consequences for this powerful portable system that attracts more and more gamers.
