Argentina’s Economy Minister, Sergio Massa, will travel to the United States in early September to hold various meetings, the Argentine ambassador in Washington, Jorge Argüello, said on Thursday.
“In the first days of September, we are going to receive the visit of the new Economy Minister, Sergio Massa, who is going to have meetings not only with the IMF, but also with authorities from the Treasury, the White House, multinational banks,” Argüello said in a speech at the Council of the Americas in Buenos Aires.
Massa, who took office at the beginning of August, will meet with the IMF at a time when the organization is carrying out a new review of the program agreed with Argentina in March for 44,000 million dollars.
President Alberto Fernández will also travel to the United States to participate in the annual Assembly of the United Nations Organization, added Argüello.
“Averaging the month (September), the date of the invitation that President (Joe) Biden made to him to visit the White House is yet to be confirmed,” he added, referring to the meeting scheduled for July 26, which had to be suspended after confirm the contagion of COVID-19 of the American president.
Argüello argued that Argentina must work to increase its exports to the United States, which currently represent only 0.2% of its total imports.
