Minecraft Legends it is much more than it seems; It’s just a different experience each time.
We already played it, and I share my experience with this spin-off developed by Mojang Studios and Blackbird Interactive. We first got a taste of the campaign, which put us in control of a hero who must end the Piglin invasion. Although it is simple, the story is narrated with animated clips that have their charm. They are brief scenes that take up elements from the background of Minecraft much loved by fans, but the adventure has unexpected twists and some surprises.
The mission is to free the villagers from the Nether enemies who will attack without thinking. To achieve this, you have to understand a system that starts by gathering resources and planning an efficient strategy to command an army of creatures. To gather resources, all you have to do is press a trigger near a tree, if you want wood, or near a building if what you need is stone. Materials are used for everything from summoning creatures to join your army to creating barriers, catapults, and other attack and protection tools. In addition, little by little improvements will be obtained that allow you to obtain new resources, and summon new units such as creepers, skeletons and other creatures with different abilities.
Prepare your strategy and create your own army
Each unit fulfills a different role; For example, there are golems that attack melee but falter when facing enemies from a distance, and their main function is to dismantle buildings, such as annoying archer towers. On the other hand, long-range units work well together, but just one won’t tickle your attacks. These details help plan the formation of a powerful army. I think it was a good decision to keep things simple and keep busy with resource management and decisions on when and how to attack or defend.
Another important factor is that the units are always around us, and although they can attack by initiative, you must give them orders by selecting a target to attack or demolish buildings. The attack can be divided into groups, but you can also send a warrior individually. While that is happening, you can have a pitched battle aboard a mount that will allow you to flee if everything goes wrong. When your hearts are running low, all you have to do is move away for them to regenerate automatically. In case you lose them all you will have to wait a few seconds to reappear.
“The feeling of freedom is appreciated”
This combination of platform and action allows you to understand the rules of the game intuitively and the pace keeps you moving. The movement of your hero and the speed at which you traverse the map is very good, plus there are features like fast travel, which you can take advantage of once you discover a check point.
The feeling of freedom to move around the maps in search of treasures, new mounts or the Piglins’ bases is appreciated. The best part is that each player will have a different experience, even in campaign mode. In fact, I noticed that those of us who participated in the test followed a different order and that generated differences. Although the goal was the same, the changes were enough to make us feel that each game was unique.
Cooperative or competitive?
Minecraft Legends it has a competitive multiplayer mode that we think is more cooperative. In it we participate 2 teams of 3 players, and the objective is to take the rival base. The most important thing is to assume a role and defend the base at all costs, but the stakes are higher.
While one player is dedicated to setting up barricades and fending off invaders, another can attack Piglin bases to upgrade units and have more chances to win. Meanwhile, the third player can directly attack the enemy base. This sounds easy, but sometimes you’ll need to join forces to repel a surprise attack. During the game you will also be suddenly attacked by Piglins, an extra element to consider while planning your attack scheme. These games can be fun or very frustrating, it all depends on the synergy between the players. If there is not good teamwork, the game will be lost from the beginning.
A world full of color
The world of Minecraft Legends It is colorful and full of vegetation and creatures. The maps are constantly changing, so all the time you will see items appear or disappear in real time. Changes in tones between zones make each region look different and add value to the scan. The same goes for the change from day to night, when enemies become more powerful. Although it seems that the game is not very demanding, there are many resources on the screen that need to be processed in real time. Fortunately, the version of Xbox Series X that we tested performed well, and we were able to play the game without any problems.
