MADRID Jan. 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The forces of the Somali state of Puntland announced this Monday that they have expelled the Islamic State from the Al Miskaad mountains, in the Bari region, in an operation that began earlier this week and in which they have intercepted nine drones, captured four key bases and eliminated 20 terrorist group fighters.
The Security Forces of the Puntland Government have claimed to have killed several Islamic State militants, twenty according to the national news agency SONNA, as well as the destruction of important facilities of the armed group such as a food warehouse and a health center.
Likewise, they have celebrated the seizure of the organization’s weapons and the recovery of strategic territory, including four key bases, within the framework of the fighting that has taken place in recent days.
“This is a decisive moment in our fight against terrorism. The operation has pushed the Islamic State back hundreds of kilometers into previously inaccessible territory,” celebrated a military spokesman.
The anti-terrorist operation in the Al Miskad mountain range in Somalia has not been without costs. According to the Hiiran Online news portal, several soldiers from Puntland’s regular forces have been killed and others have been wounded, although authorities have not revealed official figures.
Bari is the epicenter of a power struggle between the Al Shabaab and Islamic State organizations in the Puntland region.
