The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, will attend the peace conference on Ukraine to be held on June 15 and 16 in Switzerland, where he will coincide with his Spanish counterpart, Pedro Sánchez, in the midst of the controversy generated by the president’s visit. last week to a Vox event, which culminated in the withdrawal of the Spanish ambassador in Buenos Aires.
The presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, explained this Thursday in a press conference that Milei will stop in Madrid on June 21 to attend the presentation of an award by the Spanish think tank Instituto Juan de Mariana and will also travel to Italy for a G7 meeting to be held from the 13th to the 15th.
Adorni has also reported that Milei will travel to two other countries, although he has not specified which ones. Sources from the Argentine Presidency consulted by Europa Press have confirmed that one of them is Switzerland, where the conference will be held, which counts among its main promoters the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski.
Russia has traditionally distanced itself from this type of initiative, although Russian authorities do hope that a concrete ‘roadmap’ will emerge from the June summit for Moscow to participate in a hypothetical peace process. For now, the positions of kyiv and Moscow seem irreconcilable.
