Milei visits Spain for meetings with businessmen and Vox event

Argentine President Javier Milei is in Spain to meet with businessmen and participate in “Europa Viva 24”, a meeting of far-right European leaders promoted by the Spanish party Vox.

Milei, a libertarian economist who became president in December, arrived early Friday in Madrid, on a three-day trip in which he is not scheduled to meet with Spanish government officials or King Felipe VI. A couple of weeks ago, The Argentine president harshly criticized his counterpart Pedro Sánchez after one of his ministers accused Milei of being a drug user.

One of the activities he plans to carry out in Spain is the presentation of his book “The Way of the Libertarian” in the auditorium of the newspaper La Razón, the government reported.

In that book published in 2022, Milei tells the path that led him to achieve his seat as a national deputy in the legislative elections that were held a year earlier. The text also brings together several of his main economic ideas.

The Argentine president will meet on Saturday with directors of Spanish companies along with his sister and general secretary of the Presidency, Karina Milei, and the Argentine ambassador to Spain, Roberto Bosch Estévez. Afterwards, the leader of the La Libertad Avanza party will also have a meeting with the deputy and president of Vox, Santiago Abascal.

A day later, Milei will give a speech at the “Europa Viva 24” meeting, which will be attended by Abascal and other right-wing leaders from several European countries, whose names were not specified by the government. The participation of the Argentine president has been read as support for Vox in the face of the European Parliament elections on June 9.

On Monday, Milei is scheduled to return to Argentina, where former president Mauricio Macri assumed leadership of the Republican Proposal (PRO) party, which has become a valuable partner of the current government.
