The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, met this Saturday in Madrid with senior managers of Spanish companies with a strong presence in Argentina, such as Telefónica, Santander, BBVA, Mapfre and Indra, among other companies.
The meeting took place behind closed doors at the headquarters of the Argentine embassy in Madrid and is part of the president’s visit to Madrid, where he arrived this Friday to participate on Sunday in the Europa Viva 24 convention, an event that will bring together Vox leaders and relevant figures in their political space such as Marinne Le Pen.
The objective of this Saturday’s meeting, which was attended by the president of the CEOE, Antonio Garamendi, was to present its economic program to Spanish companies.
Upon arrival, activists from the Femen organization stood in front of the diplomatic complex to demonstrate against the murder of three lesbian women that occurred in Argentina a few days ago.
In parallel, a rally took place in the center of Madrid under the slogan ‘The extreme right is not welcome’ to stage the rejection of Milei.
INVOLVE COMPANIES IN ARGENTINA
Milei’s objective with Spanish companies is to involve foreign companies with interests in the country to increase projects and investment in Argentina.
To this end, it aims to implement legislation that promotes stability and legal security, thus turning the page on cases such as the expropriation in May 2012 of YPF from Repsol by the Government of former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, and by which the Republic Argentina was sentenced to pay 16 billion dollars.
The Argentine leader has attended the meeting with the Spanish managers with the intention of highlighting the change in the business climate in Argentina and the measures adopted by his cabinet to recover the country’s financial credibility, such as the announcement of debt reduction, the cut of expenses and subsidies and the initiatives of economic orthodoxy to reduce inflation and recover growth.
Since taking office, the Argentine president has worked to reestablish Argentina’s connections with the business community, in order to sell the country as a stable territory in economic terms and to which businessmen can bring their investments.
On this visit to Spain, the first since he took office, no meeting with King Felipe VI is planned, nor with the Government of Pedro Sánchez. On the other hand, he will participate this Sunday in a political event organized by Vox.
Precisely, his visit comes just a few weeks after both governments were immersed in a controversy due to statements by the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente. Finally, this issue was considered settled by both countries.
