He affirms that Israel seeks to “intimidate the media” and “cover up the crimes” it commits with its attacks
Oct. 25 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The interim prime minister of Lebanon, Nayib Mikati, accused Israel this Friday of committing a “war crime” after killing three journalists in a bombing carried out against a building in the city of Hasbaya, located in the southeast of the country.
“The new Israeli aggression against journalists and correspondents in Hasbaya constitutes a chapter of war crimes committed by the Israeli enemy, without deterrence or international voices to stop what is happening,” he criticized in a statement published by his office in his account on social network X.
Thus, he has said that the attack is “a deliberate aggression” that seeks to “intimidate the media” and “cover up the crimes and destruction” that he is causing within the framework of his attacks and his invasion of the country, unleashed on December 1 October.
“I have instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to include this new crime in the files documenting Israeli crimes, which will be presented to the relevant international organizations,” he said. “Maybe world conscience will stop what is happening,” he concluded.
The journalists have been identified as photographer Uisam Qasim, from the Al Manar television network, linked to the Shiite militia party Hezbollah; Ghasán Nayar and Muhamad Reda, photographer and technician of the Al Mayadeen television network. The day before, the Beirut headquarters of this chain was bombed, although that office had been evacuated weeks before.
The Israeli Army unleashed a new invasion of Lebanon on October 1 after several weeks of intense bombing and attacks against the country, including the coordinated explosion of thousands of communication devices, after more than eleven months of fighting with Hezbollah in the border area. .
The Government of Lebanon has put the death toll at nearly 2,600 and more than 12,000 injured due to the attacks carried out by Israel since October 8, 2023, after the militia party began firing projectiles in support of the Palestinian groups following the attacks carried out the day before against Israeli territory.
