Mikami confesses that Sakurai was the first to praise RE4’s camera

A few days ago the first part of a talk between Shinji Mikami and Jun Takeuchi was published where they take a look at the 25 years of resident Evil. Now a second part of the interview is available and interesting things have been revealed. One of them is that Masahiro Sakurai was the first to praise the camera Resident Evil 4.

As you surely know, the fourth installment of the saga became one of the most critically acclaimed games when it arrived as a temporary exclusive on the Nintendo GameCube in 2004, all while looking to give a reboot to resident Evil that went through several experiments before achieving the perfect mix of action and horror.

One of the most noticeable changes in the games was in the camera perspective, which said goodbye to still shots and welcomed an over-the-shoulder angle of view. This change, according to Shinji Mikami, was first recognized by Sakurai himself.

“The first person to praise the camera system in RE4 was actually Masahiro Sakurai, the guy who makes Super Smash Bros.. He came to see the game in development and asked ‘who came up with this camera system?’ I raised my hand and said ‘that was me’, Sakurai then praised the system, stating that it was great,” said Mikami.

As you can see, it seems that the creative was surprised that Sakurai praised his work and thanked him for the support, which was well earned after creating one of the best games in the world. resident Evil.
