“Justice, justice, justice,” the migrants shouted before the visit of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to Ciudad Juárez, in Mexico, a place where a few days ago a fire that left more than 40 fatalities.
“It’s very sad what happened. justice will be done“, was the only sentence of the president, upon his arrival at the Gymnasium of the College of Bachelors of Ciudad Juárez.
Some time later, López Obrador left in a white van while the citizens gathered there told him they asked for explanations and attention.
Before their arrival, several migrants came to the place asking for well-being, decent work and a home.
“Women, men and children. We are people of peace, we are not criminals,” said a man, with the help of a loudspeaker, as he walked along with the crowd to get closer to the Gym.
“No to xenophobia. We ask that you treat us with love… We, at this moment, ask, on behalf of the migrant people… justice,” he added.
Nearby, 13-year-old Ana de Dios Pavón burst into tears while singing the Venezuelan anthem.
“I want to give a message to President Biden, who was the one who put that policy of not letting us through in any way,” said the Venezuelan.
The little girl also said that, if they are not allowed to enter the US, help them against the Venezuelan government, which, according to her, “stole” their “homeland.” “That they overthrow that government that is there… and make a change, because we are not here to stay in the US either. We love our country.”
On Friday morning, in his usual morning conference, the Mexican president gave details of the visit and assured that the fire that occurred in the border city “broke his soul.”
“I will be attending to the medical part, basically, what matters most to me is the attention to the wounded. I don’t know (if I’m going to visit the victims), but I’m going to have a meeting with the doctors to make sure they don’t lack anything, that we can save their lives, now that’s the fundamental thing,” he added.
In his press conference, he also stated that he would ask the doctors “to review all the wounded so that they do not lack anything” and save their lives.
On Monday, 39 migrants died in a fire, in a shelter of the National Institute of Migration (INM) in Ciudad Juárez, on the border with the United States.
