Panama City ( Spanish) — A 7-year-old migrant boy joined the fatalities of the bus accident that fell on Wednesday off a cliff in Gualaca, Chiriquí province, in Panama, the country’s Ministry of Health said in a statement on Thursday.
So far, the number of people killed is around 40, an amount that cannot yet be specified because there are differences between the number of victims reported by different government institutions.
The boy was part of the group of 66 migrants who left Darién on the bus that crashed near the Los Planes immigration shelter, in Gualaca, where they were traveling and which would be the last place they would remain in Panamanian territory, before continuing his way north.
So far, the Panamanian authorities have not revealed the nationalities or ages or other information of the deceased. On Wednesday, the institutions involved in this issue reported at a press conference that there were 10 injured children, three of whom were in critical condition. The deceased minor was from that group.
