The way we play Minecraft and other games could change with artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence is advancing by leaps and bounds. Beyond its obvious and frankly useful benefits, it also presents many concerns in multiple sectors, including gaming. While we look closely at how this technology evolves, Microsoft confirmed that it plans to integrate it into Minecraft and other Xbox and PC games.

Microsoft Copilot is an AI chat assistant that was launched in 2023 and is an answer to Google’s Gemini AI. This tool, which aims to help users with their daily queries, is based on the language models of ChatGPT and Dalle-3 by OpenAI.

This is how Microsoft Copilot works in Minecraft

To demonstrate the potential of this tool, he gave an interesting presentation at Minecraft. In a short video published by the journalist Rich DeMuroit is observed that a user asks the artificial intelligence how to create a sword in the video game Mojang. Next, Copilot reviews the inventory and reveals what resources are necessary to build said item.

If the required materials are not available, the AI will help the players obtain them. In essence, this technology could completely eliminate the need to turn to Google and YouTube to search for specific tutorials and guides. At the event, Microsoft confirmed that this technology will be integrated gradually and Minecraft is expected to be the first. The plan is to incorporate it into more Xbox games.

It is unknown when this technology is planned to be integrated into the Mojang video game and the rest of the Xbox experiences. In April 2024, a report highlighted that Microsoft is working on an AI chatbot that will be able to solve all kinds of support concerns, and even process refunds.

At the presentation, the company also presented the Copilot+ PC, a new line of computers that will have artificial intelligence functions without the need to resort to the cloud. He also emphasized privacy and noted that data used through these AI computers will remain on the device and will not be uploaded to the network.
