Microsoft has ditched its proprietary Surface Connect port on its docks in favor of USB-C instead. and by extension, by Thunderbolt 4, something that allows users to have a high-quality universal option for be able to connect a significant number of devices to their Windows tablets.
This productalthough it arrives to replace in a certain way the Surface Dock 2, does not cause the latter to stop selling for now, but it makes clear the direction Microsoft is heading in this regard, even if it is for a price of 300 dollars – which is probably higher in Spain.
The new dock, being compatible with Thunderbolt 4, it will be compatible with many more devices than before when connected via USB-C. With this, we will have three USB-C ports, three USB-A ports, one 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port, an audio jack and a Kensington-type security lock anchor.
As we mentioned before, the release of this port makes clear the direction in which Microsoft is heading, Well, both the Surface Laptop 5 and the Surface Pro 9 have the Surface Connect port, but they are compatible with Thunderbolt 4so it’s a matter of time before we stop seeing the previous proprietary port in future releases of the brand.
