Micron will launch its GDDR7 memory during the first half of 2024

It is evident that, despite the recent launch of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 –whose review we can read at this link— the company and its rivals are already working on future generations of their graphics cards, and as part of this development, we also find future generations of graphics memory, as we read in a call to Micron investors compared to GDDR7 memory.

In this case, there is talk of an approximate time frame for the launch of its GDDR7 memory, that it would arrive around the first half of 2024, although it is unknown at what speeds it would do so. By comparison, Samsung did the opposite, announcing that its GDDR7 memory would reach 36Gbpsbut did not announce when it would be released.

Evidently, a release of GDDR7 memory is not something that is too much of a concern for end userssince it is not something that we can buy to install in our system, but once this memory is launched, we will have to wait for the graphics card manufacturers to incorporate it into their models so that we can buy them.

At the performance level –according to Samsung data at least— if we put GDDR7 memory in an RTX 4090 without changing anything else, we would find 1.7TB/s of bandwidthbut it is to be expected that the brands reduce the width of the bus to save on costs.
