Micron has started production of the first PCIe 4.0 SSD drives with capacities of 30.72 TBas we can see on the web page related to the Micron 9400. These drives, however, are not your run-of-the-mill desktop drives, rather, they are U.3 units. with a 2.5-inch form factor, used in server racks.
This range is composed of six models with capacities between 6.4 TB and 30.72 TB, being all of them in production and being segmented into the PRO and MAX rangesalthough it is worth discussing here the misuse of the PRO nomenclature, since all the models are focused on professional use.
The figures of these units will not leave anyone indifferent, with speeds of 1.6 million IOPS for random reads, a 77% improvement in IOPS per watt over the previous generationand a capacity of 737TB per server with 24 standard storage units, something that can reduce the cost of implementation compared to smaller units that require more servers.
In general, these are storage units with performance as impressive as its capability in the taller models.
