Due to the high demand for chips in recent years, Micron has announced an investment of 100,000 million dollars for the construction of a new plant in the center of New York. This new Megafab foresees increase the production of DRAM chips of the company in up to 40% for the next years. Preparations are expected to begin next year, 2023, and construction can begin in 2024, with production already increasing for the second half of this decade.
This investment is made possible by incentives provided by the City of New York along with federal grants and United States CHIPS law credits. This reinforces a stronger supply chain in the United States and can compete against China. Micron will build this factory in support of sustainability in accordance with its own goals, which include a 42% reduction in emissions by 2030 and zero emissions by 2050.
This construction will be the largest facility for semiconductor manufacturing in the United Statessupported by the leader of the senate who has defended the CHIPS law, thanks to which it has been possible this historical investment for the construction of this reference center in the construction of chips for DRAM.
