The video game industry continues to develop and this growth can be seen in the money it generates year after year. The last few years have been very good for the industry worldwide and Mexico has been one of the main contributors.
A new study by the EAE Business School (via Business Insider Mexico) revealed that Mexico generated $1,730 million dollars for the video game industry last year, 2021. It is important to mention that in 2019, $840 million dollars were generated in this country; On the other hand, according to another study, in 2018 it was revealed that the country’s income in this industry was $1,606 million. With these results, this country continues as the main consumer of video games in Latin America.
In Mexico, accessory sales increased 95% in 2020 compared to 2019. In the field of consoles, sales increased 33.3% and software sales grew 24.1%. The latest that is known regarding the number of Mexican players is that in 2019 72.6 million players were registered.

What is the video game brand that sells the most in Mexico?
Naturally, this makes us think about the brand that sells the most in Mexico and the truth is that there is nothing new. If you have followed the previous reports, you surely remember that Xbox is the company that sells the most in this region.
This new study reveals that Mexicans prefer this brand, which leads the console market with 28.9%. PlayStation takes second place (23.4%) and Nintendo third (18.9%).
However, the video game company that Mexicans mainly identify is Nintendo (91%), closely followed by PlayStation (90%). Between 87% and 81% are Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Rony and Riot Games; Interestingly, the one that is least identified is Take Two Interactive, a company that owns one of the largest franchises in the industry, Grand Theft Auto.

The study also throws up many more interesting details, such as the fact that the Mexicans who play the most are those in the age range of 18 to 24 years (49%) and the second group is that of 25 to 34 years (44%), but the difference is not very great among the public that plays, since 38% belong to the group of 35 to 34 years old and 35% belongs to the group of 45 to 50 years old.
It is important to mention that these data were recorded in 2021, in the midst of a pandemic, a period that was very sad in many industries, but that was very positive in video games.
Precisely during this period, 18% of Mexicans began to gamble and 30% increased the frequency of gambling. On the other hand, the majority of mobile gamers (36%) spend more than 1 hour playing.
