Mexico arrests the brother of "El Mencho", leader of the Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel

The National Guard detained Abraham Oseguera Cervantes, brother of the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and who supposedly had a more discreet and administrative role in the criminal organization.

The National Detention Registry confirmed his capture early Sunday morning in the town of Autlán de Navarro, Jalisco.

The authorities have not publicly reported on this matter nor have they confirmed the relationship of the arrested person with Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias El Mencho, the leader of the cartel and one of the most wanted drug traffickers in the United States.

But security analyst David Saucedo assured AP that Abraham is one of El Mencho's brothers, although he did not have a bloodthirsty profile nor did he lead shock groups, but rather he did “administrative activities within the cartel.”

“He was mainly in charge of drug shipments to the United States, having some transfer routes under his control,” said Saucedo, who did not rule out that the arrest may have been carried out for the purposes of extradition to that country.

As he explained, for many years Abraham has had a discreet role but according to files and intelligence information, “his existence and the role he played within the Jalisco Cartel had been known for a long time.”

In December 2022, another brother of El Mencho, Antonio Oseguera Cervantes, alias Tony Montana, was arrested, who was accused of organizing logistics, buying weapons, laundering money for the cartel and organizing violent offensives against antagonistic groups.

The CJNG is currently considered one of the most bloodthirsty and powerful cartels in Mexico, which disputes the control of many territories with the other large Mexican criminal organization, the Sinaloa Cartel.

With enormous firepower that includes automatic machine guns, grenade launchers and rocket launchers, the CJGN has established a virtually national presence, from the beaches of Cancún in the east to the north, and has been targeted by authorities in both Mexico and USA. Several of its members have been arrested in different parts of the country.

The United States offers a reward of 10 million dollars for the capture of “El Mencho.”
