The head of the department, Raquel Buenrostro, said that the modernization of the treaty brings us closer to a more inclusive policy, which vindicates and strengthens the role of women and SMEs in the economy.
The modernization incorporates relevant topics from the reality of international trade, endorsing the commitment of the Ministry of Economy to continue with the work for the implementation of the chapters, which will provide great opportunities to Mexican and Chilean companies.
Regarding the Gender and Trade chapter, it seeks to promote the economic empowerment of women through their inclusion in foreign trade.
The MSMEs chapter aims to link these types of companies to global and regional value chains and bilateral trade.
According to the authorities of Mexico and Chile, this modernization predicts significant impacts on the commercial exchange between Mexico and Chile, which reached 3.4 billion dollars in 2023, and which has an average annual growth of 3.8% since 1998.
In addition to Buenrostro, the Undersecretary of Foreign Trade, Alejandro Encinas Nájera, participated in the closing ceremony; the Undersecretary of International Economic Relations of Chile, Claudia Sanhueza; and the Chilean ambassador to Mexico, Beatriz Sánchez.
