() — Another journalist was murdered in Mexico on Monday, as confirmed by the Guerrero State Prosecutor’s Office through a statement on Facebook. With this case, there are already 15 journalists who have been murdered in the country so far in 2022 alone.
“The State Attorney General’s Office opened an investigation folder for the crime of homicide by firearm against those who are responsible, to the detriment of Fredid ‘N’, for the events that occurred in the Nicolás Bravo neighborhood, in Chilpancingo”, read in the statement.
The authorities did not specify whether the murder of Fredid Román is linked to his professional activities.
According to the defense group Article 19, Román had an extensive journalistic career. In 2001 he founded the newspaper Reality and was a columnist for the newspaper Vertex.

Article 19 said in a tweet that the murder occurred around 5 p.m., and that “the journalist was intercepted by armed individuals on a motorcycle and was killed with a firearm.”
At least 15 journalists have been killed in Mexico in 2022, according to a tally by , Article 19, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).
