( Spanish) – Mexico’s Defense Ministry reported Tuesday that the Army arrested 21 people with “high-powered” firearms, magazines, cartridges and homemade explosives in the border municipalities of San Luis Río Colorado and Sonoyta, in the state of Sonora, bordering the United States.
The agency explained that the arrests were made on Monday, September 16, after military personnel were attacked with firearms while conducting ground patrols.
The group of 21 alleged criminals were seized “44 high-powered firearms, 399 magazines, 23,899 cartridges, eight improvised explosive devices, 11 homemade detonating devices, 13 vehicles, including one with agency armor, and various tactical equipment,” the institution detailed in a statement.
