The president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, cast her vote this Saturday in the European elections with a call for the exercise of democracy and the decision-making capacity that it entails.
“Use your vote or others will decide for you,” declared Metsola after voting at a school in the coastal city of Sliema. Malta began the elections this Saturday along with the Czech Republic, Latvia and Slovakia.
“Today and tomorrow we have the opportunity to make a decision. The next five years are going to be very important for the European Union, with many challenges and we have the opportunity to decide the policy of the bloc,” declared Metsola, candidate for the Nationalist Party. from Malta, part of the popular European group.
Around 360 million Europeans are called to the polls to choose the composition of the European Parliament in its next term, from July of this year to July 2029, during which it will have 720 MEPs from all the countries of the European Union.
It is the only European institution that is elected by direct suffrage although, when they go to vote, Europeans will not find ballots with transnational lists but will have to choose between national candidates who, in each Member State, aspire to obtain representation in the new composition of the European Chamber.
