Metsola condemns Iran's "absurd" sanctions against MEPs and journalists

BRUSSELS, Oct. 27 (EUROPE PRESS) –

The president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, has “firmly” condemned the sanctions adopted by Iran against European media and MEPs, including the Spanish Javier Zarzalejos, from the PP, and Hermann Tertsch, from VOX.

In a message on social networks, the ‘popular’ Maltese has described as “absurd” Tehran’s reaction in response to the restrictions of the Twenty-seven for the death of the young Mahsa Amini, who died after being arrested for violating the Islamic dress code .

“Women have the right to demonstrate. The life and freedom of women is inviolable and on behalf of the European Parliament let me guarantee everyone that we will not stop fighting for these fundamental values,” she said, insisting that “no one will silence” to the members of the European Parliament.

Tehran assures that it acts against people and entities that support violence and encourage riots and urges the EU and the governments of the Member States not to interfere in issues that would be internal.

The list includes companies and also several media outlets, including the Persian-language subsidiaries of Germany’s Deutsche Welle and France’s RFI, as well as those responsible for the newspaper ‘Bild’, according to official Iranian media, which also point to French politicians and Germans.
