Goal has decided to close the Spark platform in January 2025, which will remove augmented reality effects created by third-party developers.

Spark was born in 2017 as a platform where developers and creators could Share and find augmented reality resources for use in content for Meta’s social networks.

The technology firm has decided to close the third-party platform, as reported in a statement. The closure will be effective January 14th of next yearthe date on which augmented reality effects will also disappear. It will also not be possible to access the Spark Studio, Spark Hub and Spark Player services.

As he has clarified, only the augmented reality effects owned by Meta will be maintained, but they will be available within Facebook, Messenger and Instagram. Content that has already been shared and that has used third-party effects will not disappear either.

“This decision is part of our broader efforts to prioritize the products we believe will best serve to future needs of our consumers and business customers alike,” Meta explained.
