Artificial intelligence is all the rage and Meta has just introduced one that knows 200 languages so well it can do real-time translations.
Throughout the years that are yet to come, we will see advances in artificial intelligence that will escape our understanding, but for the moment what is happening in our time are small steps towards a future completely different from the one we know and where these elements will gain Vital importance.
And, it is that, artificial intelligence could be said to be fashionable and, in fact, many companies have joined the bandwagon of research in this field. Meta is one of these companies and from time to time they show a small sample of what they have been developing in recent months.
The AI that they have just made known to the world is the result of an enormous development that comes from the project launched by Mark Zuckerberg called No Language Left Behind and that, as its name indicates, what it wants is for no language to be left behind and for this it has developed NLLB-200.
The name of this AI is the least important, since one of its main characteristics is that it has the wisdom of 200 languages. You can apply this knowledge in several ways, although the most striking and, in truth, the most useful is the ability to perform translations in real time.
It may not seem like much in writing, but having an AI with the ability to translate different languages while the interlocutors use them is something to keep in mind and more in a globalized world like ours where it is easy to coincide with different people from different countries at the same point.
Also, when switching from one language to another, this AI can do so without having a common point. Normally, these types of elements usually use an intermediate language to be the connection bridge when carrying out the translation. Come on, if they want to go from Galician to English, they would use Spanish to do the translation.
In the case of NLLB-200 this is not necessary since it can do the translation without using an intermediate language., making it even more powerful in terms of features and functionality. Of course, at the moment it is still under development and, logically, it may present some errors.
goal has prepared a game with which you can test this new AI, although as we have commented the errors are expected. If you are an advanced user, you can refer to the AI code as it is open source and therefore all its development has been published on GitHub so that it can be consulted by anyone who wants.
