META Confirms Lionel Messi’s World Cup Post Is The Most Popular In Instagram Story

() — Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Meta, confirmed that Lionel Messi’s World Cup post is the most “liked” post in Instagram history.

“Leo Messi’s publication in the World Cup is now the most ‘liked’ in the history of Instagram. WhatsApp also reached a record of 25 million messages per second during the final,” Zuckerberg announced on Tuesday via an Instagram post.

The photo gallery, which shows Messi and other Argentina players celebrating their World Cup victory in Qatar, has more than 69 million ‘likes’ on the social media platform on Wednesday since it was published.

In a sensational final on Sunday, Argentina won the World Cup after beating France in Qatar. It was a major achievement for the team captain, who scored twice in the final and was awarded the Ballon d’Or as the tournament’s best player.

Before Messi’s post, the most ‘liked’ photo on Instagram was an ordinary brown egg. Published in 2019, it has more than 57 million “likes” and surpassed the previous record held by the star and makeup mogul Kylie Jenner.

This Tuesday, the Argentine team returned home to a jubilant Buenos Aires where millions of people took to the streets to celebrate the return of their champions. Messi got off the plane first, with the gold trophy held high, followed by his triumphant team that paraded on the red carpet of the airport.

The triumph in Doha was Argentina’s third World Cup victory and first since 1986, when the legendary Diego Maradona led the team to victory in Mexico.
