Meta -at that time still called Facebook- had been denounced for the famous issue of the misuse of user data by Cambridge Analytica, something that has ended with the payment of 725 million dollars as a way of agreeing to close the caseand therefore, ending here the complaint to the company.
It is not a fine, but rather an agreement between Meta and the complaining party not to take the trial further and close the case here, where the misuse of the data of 87 million users was denounced and where the biggest deal ever reached in the United States has been endedand the largest amount that Meta has ever had to pay to close a complaint.
In any case, as we read in slash dotMeta has not admitted guilt, and although it could be argued what part of the fault lies with Meta and what part of the fault lies with Cambridge Analytica – remember that they collected this data under the guise of an academic study and used it for a huge publicity campaign – it is not entirely consistent.
Meta has said that this agreement has been made since it was in the best interests of the community and the shareholders of the company.
