Meta accidentally leaks (and confirms) Quest 3S, its new budget mixed reality headset

The new mixed reality headset with which Meta plans to take over from Quest 2 cannot be far away. After definitively lowering the price of what is, de facto, its entry-level model, UploadVR You have noticed an image appearing in the Meta Quest Link software for Windows.

The image in question validates the visor that appeared in early June in a market study along with a pair of controls, which may or may not be included as standard.

The Quest 3S first appeared in a leaked market study on Reddit, hinting at possible specs like a lower-resolution display and half the storage space of the Quest 3.

Technical information about the Quest 3S (if that’s what it ends up being called) is relatively sparse so far, though Mark Gurman has described it as a sort of Quest 3 with less expensive components (such as the theoretical use of Fresnel lenses) and an emphasis on mixed reality experiences. At first glance, there are six front sensors and perhaps two on the side.

Around the same time, some AliExpress sellers have started uploading accessories for Quest 3S, including padded cases to protect the sensors and screen in case of a fall and head straps intended to improve grip and/or replace the originals in case of loss.

ImageThe fact that Chinese manufacturers are already making their own accessories points to an imminent launch.

All signs point to Meta Quest 3S being unveiled at the event Mark Zuckerberg has organised for September 25, where he will give more information about its products and some hints about his “long-term vision to help build the metaverse”. There will also naturally be no shortage of new additions to its games catalogue.
