() – Menswear often takes a backseat on Hollywood awards show best-dressed lists. But on an Emmy red carpet packed with demure and sophisticated gowns, it was the male attendees who shined at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday in a range of bold, adventurous and thoughtful outfits.
That’s not to say that classic looks weren’t on point. Ramy Youssef, Joshua Jackson, “Fargo” actor Lamorne Morris and “The Bear” star (and Calvin Klein underwear model) Jeremy Allen White all looked predictably dapper in simple tuxedos.
However, some of the night’s most successful ensembles played subtly (and sometimes not so subtly) with the codes of black tie convention.
For example, Irish actor Andrew Scott swapped the traditional white button-down shirt and bow tie for a low-cut black ruffled shirt under a wide-lapeled Vivienne Westwood jacket. Meanwhile, “Abbott Elementary” actor Tyler James Williams’ Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo shirt might have been considered classic cocktail wear, if it weren’t for the fact that it was sleeveless.
Williams’ co-star Chris Perfetti also opted for ruffles, pairing his wide-leg, floor-length trousers with an extravagant shirt from Christian Siriano’s spring 2025 ready-to-wear collection. Awards co-host Dan Levy also looked to the runways for his shirt choice, opting for a sleek Loewe design with a structured, sculptural collar.
Attendees also had fun with sashes. While waist sashes are normally indicators of formality, “The Traitors” actor Alan Cumming’s turned into a train that emerged from his cream Teddy Vonranson jacket and doubled as a scarf. “Fellow Travelers” co-stars Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey, meanwhile, wore sashes to enhance their outfits, with the latter’s complementing the silky, chest-baring shirt of his Giorgio Armani outfit.
Other fun accessories of the night included pins and brooches, while bold colors proved to be another way to make a statement. “Fallout” star Aaron Moten arrived in an all-red Kenzo suit with a Nehru collar; Bowen Yang, nominated for Best Supporting Actor for “Saturday Night Live,” wore a cream Bode suit jacket over a bright red tasseled blouse; and “True Detective” actor Finn Bennett ditched the jacket in favor of a maroon silk turtleneck by Saint Laurent.
