Members of the editorial team of the UFRO mathematics journal "CUBO" participated in an international meeting of scientific editors

Part of the team from the magazine “CUBO, A Mathematical Journal”, from the Universidad de La Frontera (UFRO), was present at the Annual Meeting of the Council of Science Editors 2023, held in Toronto.

Daphne Bormann Parada, Journalist.- In this event, which traditionally brings together editors-in-chief, associates and executives, analysts and editorial assistants from prestigious scientific journals from different parts of the world, the current state of scientific publishing and the specific challenges facing this important work, with a view to promoting responsible and effective communication of science.

In this new version, participated in the framework of project FP210007 “Optimization of the editorial process and improvement in the international visibility of the journals CUBO, A Mathematical Journal and Perspectivas de la Comunicación” of ANID, Dr. Mauricio Godoy Molina, executive editor and Eng. Ignacio Castillo Bello, production editor of CUBO magazine.

“Share experiences with professional editors of some of the most prestigious scientific journals in the world in different disciplines and contextualize the work carried out by the CUBO magazine team regarding the latest trends and standards established and developed by the world’s leading scientific editorial bodies, These were some of the objectives that motivated us to be part of this meeting”, explained Dr. Godoy, already back in Chile.

This participation also included the presentation of a poster with a preliminary analysis on the positioning of the original mathematical research publication in disciplinary journals based in Latin America, with special emphasis on its quality standards and international indexing.

In this sense, it should be noted that the journal CUBO, as of 2022, is part of the prestigious scientific collection of the Web of Science (WoS) and, since 2020, of the international Scopus database, milestones that account for the the important trajectory of this UFRO publication. As the editors of CUBO magazine presented at this meeting, this publication is one of only seven Latin American mathematical journals that satisfies all the international quality indicators required by these databases.

“Additionally, we held a collaborative and strategic work meeting with Javad Mashreghi, tenured professor at Laval University in Québec, Canada, editor-in-chief of the Canadian Mathematical Bulletin and outgoing president of the Canadian Mathematical Society”, added Dr. Mauricio Godoy, confirming that this renowned researcher will join the international editorial team of CUBO magazine. “Undoubtedly, this collaborative work will be crucial to position our journal in an even more relevant way on the international mathematical scene.”

Engineer Ignacio Castillo was just as happy with this participation, with the learning and contacts established in this international event. In his words, he pointed out that “it motivates us to continue promoting our journal, giving it greater visibility through these instances that bring together editors and publishers that cover various areas of science and I think that the exchange of experiences was very enriching to professionalize this work within of our institutions.

In this way, the magazine “CUBO, A Mathematical Journal” continues to take significant steps towards the international consolidation of its work to disseminate research in mathematics, work that began to take shape in 1985 and that, over time, has gradually evolving in response to the efforts promoted by a committed team of academics that embraces this scientific discipline under the umbrella of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the Faculty of Engineering and Sciences of the University of the Border.
