6 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, called on Thursday the leader of Fuerza Italia, Silvio Berlusconi, to wish him a speedy recovery after the former Prime Minister was hospitalized in Milan and his medical team confirmed that he has leukaemia.
As reported by his brother Paolo Berlusconi upon leaving the San Rafael Hospital in Milan, the former prime minister is still in the intensive care unit, although he has assured that the family has “confidence” in the medical personnel for his recovery.
Doctor Alberto Zangrillo has issued a statement this morning in which he specifies that Berlusconi has a lung infection derived from “chronic myelomonocytic leukemia whose chronic phase persists”, for which he has begun the first chemotherapy treatments, according to AdnKronos.
Berlusconi, leader of the Fuerza Italia formation, entered the San Rafael hospital in Milan on Wednesday where, as reported this morning by his party mate and Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, he spent a “quiet” night and in “stable conditions “.
The 86-year-old former prime minister was already hospitalized between March 27 and 30 and, upon leaving the medical center, declined to make statements to the press. He had already been hospitalized in that same center on other occasions, the last one in January 2022 for a urinary tract infection.
Despite his age and the various legal cases that have been pending for years, Berlusconi remains a popular figure in Italy. In fact, in the last elections he was able to hold an elected position as a senator again and his party is part of the current government coalition, headed by Meloni.
