Melissa Rivers saves her mother’s sentimental items from wildfires

“I took my mom’s Emmy, a photo of my dad and a drawing my mom had made of my son and me,” Melissa Rivers said.

She said later in the segment: “It’s amazing what you grab. “I chose a drawing of my mother instead of a photo because I know I can find the photos.”

Melissa Rivers said she had a “mental checklist” of everything she needed to take before evacuating her home. He took passports, birth certificates, medications and clothing.

“We literally have what we have on our backs,” he said.

He said he also took dog and cat food, but said the “most important thing” is “to have his papers.”

“Have all your identification, have your passports, have them in one place ready to go,” he said. “Thank God we are organized like this.”

He said his heart is “broken” for her and her people.

Joan Rivers died in 2014 at the age of 81; Melissa Rivers’ father, producer Edgar Rosenberg, died in 1987.

Joan and Melissa Rivers worked together over the years, hosting red carpet segments before award shows and E! show “Fashion Police,” starring Joan and Melissa Rivers and produced by Melissa Rivers.

In November, Melissa Rivers organized a charity event in honor of her mother called “Dead Funny: An All-Star Tribute to Joan Rivers,” which benefited God’s Love We Deliver, an organization that delivers healthy meals to people with AIDS, cancer and other illnesses.
