Mélenchon announces that the left will "immediately" recognize the Palestinian State if it wins in France

June 18 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The French deputy Jean-Luc Mélenchon, member of France Insoumise (LFI), announced this Tuesday that if the left-wing New Popular Front manages to govern after the legislative elections, it is committed to “immediately” recognizing the Palestinian State as a measure of pressure on the Government of Israel and its leader, Benjamin Netanyahu.

Mélenchon has asked himself on social networks why the French president, Emmanuel Macron, “does not talk about Gaza” or “does anything” despite the fact that “the massacre continues.” “The Palestinians are exterminated. Lebanon is burning. France must act again and again without pause,” claimed whoever was a candidate for the Elysée.

Macron has recognized in recent months that the formal recognition of Palestine is not a “taboo” issue, but he has ruled out doing so for now unilaterally, as other European countries have done, including Spain. The Government estimates that today the conditions do not exist for a gesture of this caliber to have a real impact on peace and security.

The Foreign Minister, Stéphane Séjourné, met this Tuesday with the Israeli ambassador to France, to whom he stressed that Paris will maintain its “diplomatic efforts for peace and stability in the Middle East.” The fight against anti-Semitism, moreover, remains a “priority”, Séjourne has highlighted in his X account.
