Meghan Markle is in mourning.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43, announced on Tuesday that your rescue dog Guy has died.
Captioning a video montage she posted on Instagram, Markle wrote: “In 2015, I adopted a beagle from a dog rescue in Canada. He had been at a dead animal shelter in Kentucky and had been given a few days to live. “I pounced on him… and fell in love.”
“They referred to him as ‘the little one’ because he was so small and fragile,” the duchess added. “[S]o I called him ‘Guy’. And he was the best guy any girl could have asked for.”
Meghan found Guy before she met Prince Harry when she lived in Toronto, where her show “Suits” was filmed. At that time in her life, the former actress was active on social media and ran a lifestyle blog called The Tig.
Recalling that time, he said: “If you followed me on Instagram back then, you saw it a lot, and also on The Tig. He was with me on Suits, when I got engaged (and then married), when I became a mom… he was with me through everything: the tranquility, the chaos, the calm, the comfort.”
“He suffered a terrible accident shortly before I moved to the UK, which forced him to undergo surgeries for several months and was unable to leave the clinic,” Meghan continued.
“The doctors said I would never walk again, but Dr Noel Fitzpatrick said I could.”
Referring to Prince Harry, whom she often calls “H,” she recalled, “H and I drove late at night, after hours, to see Guy while he was recovering in Surrey for months.”
“I will always be grateful to Noel and his team, the team at Queen West Animal Hospital in TO, our current vets and my friends and community – thank you for loving him so much.”
Speaking about her upcoming Netflix cooking show, “With Love, Meghan” (premiering January 15), the duchess wrote: “Because many of you will be seeing Guy in this new series, I hope you understand why “I am very devastated by your loss.”
“I think you can fall a little in love too,” she said in the caption.
“I’ve shed too many tears to count,” Meghan confessed. “[T]The kind of tears that make you jump into the shower in the absurd hope that the water running down your face will somehow make you not feel them or pretend they’re not there.”
“But they are. And that’s okay too.”
She concluded: “Thank you for so many years of unconditional love, my sweet Guy. You filled my life in ways you will never know.”
Meghan signed: “As always, Meghan.”
Guy was included in Meghan and Harry’s 2024 Christmas Cardalong with her new dog, another rescued beagle, Momma.
