On Thursday, November 10, the fifth edition of the CIIE (China Import Export Exhibition) ended in Shanghai, in face-to-face format, which was attended by companies from all over the world interested in approaching Chinese buyers of different items. In the case of Argentina, the wine industry had an outstanding participation, which brought together a significant number of wineries and distributors, who seek to strengthen the presence of Argentine wine in the Chinese market, after having obtained an interesting participation in it with a wide range of products.
During his visit to the Argentine pavilion, the Argentine ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Sabino Vaca Narvaja, highlighted the broad Argentine participation in this new edition of the exhibition.
“The CIIE is a global strategic positioning platform through which it is possible to consolidate our country brand: we must make the most of this historic possibility,” said the Argentine ambassador when referring to the Argentine presence, which this year doubled the number of companies from the previous edition.
The Argentine representation in the CIIE consisted of 20 companies from the provinces of Buenos Aires, Mendoza and Salta, and from the City of Buenos Aires, belonging to the food and beverage industry (wine, meat and fish).
Likewise, the Argentine pavilion offered a variety of national technological offer, ranging from low-cost satellites to intelligent construction systems, including digital solutions for energy, medicine and agriculture. It should be noted that, for the first time, the South American country had a space to promote the services sector based on knowledge and technology.
The delegation of the South American country was coordinated by the Argentine Foreign Ministry, through the Argentine Agency for Investment and International Trade (AAICI), while the pavilion was organized by the Embassy and the Consulate in Shanghai.
According to Maxi Postigo, who on the occasion attended the event as a representative of the Mendoza winery Lupa Wines in communication with ReporteAsia, this edition of the CIIE “represents a historic opportunity for Argentina, because wine consumption is increasing in China, while Australia , which lowered sales, in the face of an increase in taxes, creates a space to be occupied by Argentine wines ».
Likewise, Postigo highlighted in dialogue with People’s Daily Online that «Argentine wine was one of the great exhibitors at the fair. The consumption of wine by the Chinese middle class, which is estimated to be between 400 and 700 million people, is the consumption that will allow us to offer more Argentine wine”.
Who is also CEO & founder of WeWine, stressed that the objective of the presence of Argentine wineries in the CIEE “is to bring more wine to the table of Chinese consumers, to the home of Chinese consumers, because wine is for drinking with family, with friends, for important events». About WeWine, it is China’s leading wine platform, based in Shanghai. The firm engages in marketing and provides showroom services to wine companies, wine institutions, merchants and other industry players.
